A 'Perfect' 12" x 24" Painting by ' CASTRO' - One of the Truly ORIGINAL Florida HIGHWAYMEN Artists !

This is a Painting from his 'Postcard Days / Series' (as told to me by several Highwaymen Artists)!

And MEGA RARE!!  Attached to the back of the painting is The 'Postcard' he used to paint this Painting from !!

It was painted from a Postcard of Anastasia Lighthouse near St. Augustine...below is a link to the ORIGINAL Print used for this Postcard! 


And the description given...

"This is the Anastasia Lighthouse. The black and white spiraling stripes indicate the location of the lighthouse. The dome at the top of the lantern (or lanthorn) is black. There are multiple wood frame buildings around the base of the lighthouse. There is a white picket fence around the buildings. In the foreground, there is an unpainted, wood fence. There are deciduous trees at both margins."

It is on an 'Upson' like Board... not just an "Artist Board'! - Overall Framed - 15.5" x 27.5" 

UNLIKE most of the HIGHWAYMEN Artists... Castro did not 'scratch' his signature into the painting; he 'carefully' painted 'L Roberts' into his paintings.

Lastly... when was it painted??

Judging by the 'price tag' on the 'Board' (Not the PAINTING!)... $3.29  and  4 / 99: I would say it was painted 1999 -2000... 4 to 5years before he died... January 16, 2004.
