A LARGE, VERY Early, 1950's RIO MAR by HAROLD NEWTON - Florida HIGHWAYMEN Artist

Classic 'RIO MAR ' / i.e.: 'Palms - Bluff - Ocean - Waves' - Clouds'
A VERY EARLY 'Harold'... most likely from the late 1950s on 'UPSON' - 24" 36" - Overall Framed - 32.5" x 44.5"
When 'Harold' painted (as did All the Others) the 'Back Drop'; i.e. the 'Board or Canvas' was covered with the Basic 'Background': Blue Sky - Beach - Foreground... by BRUSH!
Then the 'Magic' begins! - Enter the *'Palette Knife'! The Cloud Peaks - Wave Crests - THE PALM TREES - Grass and the distant 'Highlights'... done with 'The Knife'!
*PALETTE KNIFE; is a blunt tool used for mixing or applying paint / A Painting knife with a pointed tip, lowered or "cranked" like a trowel, suited for painting on canvas.
The more use of the 'Palette Knife', the more desirable the painting!
H, NEWTON 'scratched' into the paint... as was usually done!

Lastly, the Frame! Definitely NOT a typical Highwaymen frame... But Very Old and Very Classic!
Old Craftsmanship... not from 'Fugal Framer'!!
Extremely Ornate!
This is a Very Expensive Frame... Made many DECADES ago... LONG before the HIGHWAYMEN!!
It does have some 'Deterioration'... Unlike Harold's Rio Mar... it is PERFECT!!
