I have revised this Description... Since there are so many Variables and Questions / Comments from other eBayers: It is very difficult, to impossible, to say Exactly what is Correct or Not! During the 'Early Days', things changed Daily, but NOTHING was 'thrown away' !!

May be EARLY 1950 - 1951 - 1952 ... but I CAN NOT find any Pictures / Drawings / Illustrations of the VERY Early Pre-A System, but I believe this came out of a 1951 Cabriolet. 

However, the 'Shifting System' shown below, is from my Original Factory Pre-A Parts Manual... Dated January, 1955...

The only part that is different, is the 'Hinged Shift Link':  Everything else is 'Correct' for 1953 -1954 - 1955 PreA.

I also checked my Factory Pre-A Workshop Manual (Marked 1954 Edition); there was a picture of the Rear 'Shift Linkage' Area. It was not easily seen... but the 'Hinged Shift Link' was definitely the OLDER Style. This does not really prove anything: It could very easily be an OLDER photograph, since nothing 'technical' changed. A good example of this practice, can be found in the Early (T5) 356 B Owner's Manual, showing the use of the 'Jack'... The 356 in the photograph is obviously an A !!

YOUR Choice (ONLY ONE Included) of Shift Levers: They are obviously different lengths:

I believe the shorter one is from the EARLY Pre-A or from a Speedster... but it does have a slight problem...

However... a SUPER Easy Weld since there is Nothing up inside the 'Cup' !!

The Shifting assembly is Missing the SHIFT KNOB and BOOT... and that is ALL !!! The Nuts & Washers are not pictured , but are Included !!  The bolts (not shown in Parts Manual) that mount the entire unit to the tunnel are not included, but are available.

100% Complete... Bolt and Lock Washer (33 & 34) used to clamp the 'Shift Arm' to Rod not pictured, but included !!

The 'Hinged Shift Link' (Right), as the PORSCHE Parts Manual calls it, is Very Early... It was Truly a 'MADE by HAND'... the individual pieces being welded together!!

Own a piece of 'HAND MADE' History... From Gmund to Zuffenhausen !?!

The 'Hinged Shift Link' (Far Right), is what is shown in the Mid/Late Pre-A and Early A Parts Manuals (16).  The position of the 'Fulcrum Balls' are exactly the same on BOTH 'Links' !!  This is 'kinda' NEAT!! The one on the left was like a Prototype... when it was 'Just Right'... the final 'Link', on the right, was 'Cast' !!
